If You Want to Win the Battle, Lead the Way with Praise.

For just a Mentoring Minute, I want to revisit a battle that carries a lesson for all of us. It was recorded in 2 Chronicles, Chapter 20 that the battle was weighted heavily in favor of Judah’s enemies. It was a fearful time. King Jehoshaphat called all the people together to fast and pray. He appealed to the Lord in prayer for deliverance from the overwhelming threat they faced. Verse 12 tells us that Jehoshaphat prayed, telling God His people “had no power against this great multitude… But our eyes are upon you.” It was a statement of desperation, but also of faith. Then, in Verse 15, the Word of the Lord came forth, saying not to be afraid. The battle was God’s. 2 Chronicles. 20:17 (NKJV) says, You will not need to fight in this battle. Position yourselves, stand still and see the salvation of the Lord, who is with you, O Judah and Jerusalem!’ Do not fear or be dismayed; tomorrow go out against them, for the Lord is with you.”

The next day Jehoshaphat appointed singers and praisers to go out in the lead against the enemy armies. The rest was history. The enemy was defeated. They were so confused by God that “they helped destroy one another.” (Verse 23) The battle was truly the Lord’s. I’m Dr. Bob. The power of praise is as effective now as it was then. When you are facing a battle against overwhelming odds, what will you do? I recommend that your first line of defense is to turn to God in prayer. Then, your first line of attack should be to simply stand still in faith, praising God. You will see the Lord do what you cannot do, but He can always do.
