Run From It!

The Apostle Paul warns us to run from sin. In my opinion, not running away from it is a dangerous carnal miscalculation. It would be a very bad choice that leads to destruction. Sin will entice and entrap us, and we ought to flee from it as fast and as far as we can. Not doing so always results in some form of deadly personal destruction. Joseph’s running from Potiphar’s wife is a great biblical example of someone who fled from temptation. Genesis 39:11-12 (NKJV) says, “But it happened about this time, when Joseph went into the house to do his work, and none of the men of the house was inside, {12} that she caught him by his garment, saying, “Lie with me.” But he left his garment in her hand, and fled and ran outside.”

Scripture is clear that our defense against self-destructive choices is to live humbly before the Lord. Philippians, Chapter 2 tells us to have the same attitude of humility Christ had when He went to the cross. He never fled the cross. He fled the temptation to do so, which would have been deadly for us. For us, maintaining humility is a sure way to run from treacherous temptations. We are well able to do this. Indeed, we have the mind of Christ (1 Corinthians 2:16).

Paul wrote in Philippians 4:13 that we can do “all things,” including running from temptations to sin. Christ gives us the strength to do so. I’m Dr. Bob and here’s the question: Will use we this strength to deny ourselves these enticing, evil temptations before they find a home from which to corrupt our thinking and direct our actions toward the inevitable mournful end? I know you will do your best. God will do the rest!
