While doing my daily Bible reading, I often feel weary and less interested than I should have been. So I do something to energize myself. It’s become a habit when my flesh doesn’t want to complete the day’s reading. I tell myself how much I love the Scriptures. I even say it out loud a couple times and thank God for the Bible. It seems that when I do this it completely changes my attitude. It’s because I do love the Word of God and count it a privilege to read it every day. Jeremiah 15:16 (NKJV) says, “Your words were found, and I ate them,And Your word was to me And the joy and rejoicing of my heart; For I am called by Your name, O Lord God of hosts.”
It’s easy to take for granted what you love, and just as easy to grow weary of doing what’s right and good for you. When this happens in your daily devotions, just remind yourself of your love for the Word. It will speak to you what nothing else can… and do so out of Jesus’ own love for you. He is, after all, the Living Word. He took you out of darkness and showered you with the light of His eternal favor, not to mention eternal life. He loved you before you ever loved Him or His Word. I’m Dr. Bob. Now, go and enjoy the light you in which you walk, and spend some time in the Bible. If you decide there be “joy and rejoicing” in your heart every time you pick up the Bible, it will become exactly that!
