Do What You Believe In. Believe In What You Do.

I was talking with my wife Nancy about a woman on a TV quiz show who, on the final question of the contest, chose to deliberately tie another contestant when she could have won. Nancy and I agreed that, within the woman’s heart, she probably believed in giving grace to others, rather than winning at their expense. This led me to think about a principle that defines a Christian of high moral character and equally high actions: “Always do what you believe in. Always believe in what you do. Otherwise, don’t do it.” James 2:18b, and 22 (NKJV) says, “Show me your faith without your works, and I will show you my faith by my works… {22} Do you see that faith was working together with his works, and by works faith was made perfect?”

The best way to be assured that your beliefs are solid, appropriate and proper foundations for your actions is to base them on fundamental biblical truths. Then, you will know you are properly grounded in the right beliefs. This allows you to confidently make choices about what you should do (“your works”). However, if you misinterpret or disregard the clear truths of the Bible, you open yourself up to inappropriate choices, failure or even worse. This is because you will have chosen a crumbling foundation upon which to move forward. I’m Dr. Bob. It’s vital to know what you believe and why you believe it. It’s equally important to let what you believe be the deciding factor in what you choose to do. Remember, “Do what you believe in. Believe in what you do. Otherwise, don’t do it”
