Foolish Choices

Have you ever seen a picture of an ostrich with his head in the sand? I’m not sure those big birds really do this, but it’s a picture of a foolish choice because the bird has chosen not to see what it should see. When we apply this image to people, it usually implies fear of what we might see or perhaps an uncaring attitude about what’s happening around us. Both are foolish choices. To remain ignorant when knowledge is available is foolhardy. A wise decision is to take action to discover what can easily be hidden if we keep our heads in the sand. Proverbs 15:21 (NKJV) says, “Folly is joy to him who is destitute of discernment,
But a man of understanding walks uprightly.”

Facing things that are not pleasing, unwelcome or constitute a danger is the choice of successful people. We are not to hide our heads in the sand. We are to do whatever’s necessary to see the truth. This may require us to press for answers. Fear filled or uncaring ignorance is not acceptable. There are many circumstances that if ignored or avoided will result in unpleasantly unexpected outcomes. Overcoming these circumstances requires facing them head on and then doing the right thing to get your victory. I’m Dr. Bob. How do you usually deal with unpleasant things? Do you “stick your head in the sand”… or do you face them head on? Think about this the next time you feel like avoiding what should not be avoided. Approach these things with faith in Jesus. He is your fortress and high tower. Trust Him as you work to gain your victory.
