I enjoy watching TV and find it a welcome change from the hours I spend studying God’s Word, writing books and producing teaching materials. This consumes much of my days. I must admit that for a break from all of this study and writing, I have become the classic TV remote-control channel surfer. The problem with this is that the variety of programming that’s available at any given time includes a large amount of useless, stupid or seriously offensive programming. As I flip through the channels with my remote-control, I cannot help being exposed to some of this bad programming that carries the intentional purpose of tempting the viewer to stop surfing and start watching. The same now is true for the Internet. What are we to do to avoid getting drawn into watching this bad stuff? The answer to this can be found in two Scriptures:
1 Corinthians 10:13 (NKJV) says, “No temptation has overtaken you except such as is common to man; but God is faithful, who will not allow you to be tempted beyond what you are able, but with the temptation will also make the way of escape, that you may be able to bear it.” 2 Corinthians 10:3-6 (NKJV) says, “For though we walk in the flesh, we do not war according to the flesh. {4} For the weapons of our warfare are not carnal but mighty in God for pulling down strongholds, {5} casting down arguments and every high thing that exalts itself against the knowledge of God, bringing every thought into captivity to the obedience of Christ, {6} and being ready to punish all disobedience when your obedience is fulfilled.”
These Scriptures clearly provide a process to follow for a way of escape. Allow me to illustrate this process with a Nanticoke Indian story about a two wolves:“One evening an elderly Cherokee brave told his grandson about a battle that was going on inside himself. He said, “It is between two wolves. One is evil… the other is good.” The grandson thought about it for a minute and then asked his grandfather, “Which wolf wins?” The old Cherokee simply replied, “The one I feed.”” Consider the Scriptures and the lesson from the story of the two wolves. Together, they will challenge you to consider how you will react to the inevitable temptations that will be thrust before you. Think about it.
