Your Reaction to Temptation

I find that watching TV is an enjoyable, stress free and a welcome change from the studying and writing I love to do. When it comes to TV, I am a classic remote control channel surfer. The problem with this is that the programming playing at any given time includes a large amount of useless, stupid or clearly offensive programming. As I flip through the channels, I cannot help being exposed to some of this bad programming. This obviously carries the intentional purpose of tempting the viewer to stop surfing and start watching. The same holds true for the Internet. What are we to do? The answer to this can be found in two Scriptures: 1 Corinthians 10:13 (NKJV) says,  “No temptation has overtaken you except such as is common to man; but God is faithful, who will not allow you to be tempted beyond what you are able, but with the temptation will also make the way of escape, that you may be able to bear it.” The Apostle Paul explains the method of escaping in 2 Corinthians 10:3-5 (NKJV). He says, “For though we walk in the flesh, we do not war according to the flesh. {4} For the weapons of our warfare are not carnal but mighty in God for pulling down strongholds, {5} casting down arguments and every high thing that exalts itself against the knowledge of God, bringing every thought into captivity to the obedience of Christ,”

God makes a way of escape, but we must decide to follow Paul’s assurances and heed the instructions contained within the Scriptures. They provide the solution to this problem of involuntary exposure to those stupid, useless and purely offensive programming. We must be prepared to act quickly. It must become a pattern of our lives. Quick action will leave no room to dwell on the inevitable temptations that will be thrust before us. I’m Dr. Bob and here’s my question to you. What can you do to protect immediately yourself from dwelling on all that garbage that wants to capture and corrupt your thinking? The Scriptures give us the answer, but being a “doer of the Word” will be entirely up to you.
