Very Much Dead; Very Much Alive

Most Christians are familiar with the resurrection of Lazarus, as recorded in John, Chapter 11. In the Thirty-Ninth verse, Jesus commanded the people at Lazarus’ tomb to “Take away the stone.” The immediate response of Lazarus’ sister Martha was understandable, considering her fresh experience of burying her brother. She objected, citing the decaying condition of Lazarus’ body. Jesus did not reply with pity. Instead, Verse 39 tells us Jesus simply reminded her that He said she would see the glory of God if she would just believe. The events following were miraculous. The people obeyed, took away the stone and Lazarus walked out, very much alive. John 11:40 (NKJV) says, “Jesus said to her, “Did I not say to you that if you would believe, you would see the glory of God?”

Dead men don’t walk, but when Jesus commanded the dead man to “walk,” Lazarus walked. Here’s the point. Nothing is too hard, or even impossible for God. Everything is in the realm of possibility when He speaks. The resurrection of Lazarus provides us with many lessons, but if you accept Scripture to be true, here are four that I hope will encourage you. First, Jesus spoke and a miracle occurred. Second, God is always bigger than your problem. Third, If God says it, all He asks is that you believe. Fourth, He will perform His Word. Take it to the bank!

God will interrupt time, space and nature to intervene. He always has complete control over His creation. There are no exceptions to this. His supernatural intervention is just a step of obedience and faith away from you!
