I’d like to tell you about my first experience with biblical teaching. It came when I enrolled in a new believer’s course called, “Boot Camp.” It was taught by Pastor Mel Rolls, then the youth pastor at Trinity Church International, my home church. He was known for destroying microphones with the thunderous sound of his voice. He was so loud and expressive that when he taught or preached, he inadvertently spit as he spoke. Everyone knew this and kept their distance… well, everyone but me. I was so hungry for what I could learn from him that I chose to sit right in front of him, in range of the shower of spit. I was not only showered with moisture from Pastor Rolls, but also received showers of living waters from the Holy Spirit.
Many years after I attended “Boot Camp,” I heard Pastor Jamie Peters preach about Jesus healing a blind man by spitting on his eyes. He preached from Mark 8:22-25; and, it brought back memories of “Boot Camp.” Mark 8:22-25 (NKJV) says, “Then He came to Bethsaida; and they brought a blind man to Him, and begged Him to touch him. {23} So He took the blind man by the hand and led him out of the town. And when He had spit on his eyes and put His hands on him, He asked him if he saw anything. {24} And he looked up and said, “I see men like trees, walking.” {25} Then He put His hands on his eyes again and made him look up. And he was restored and saw everyone clearly.
I’m Dr. Bob. The lesson is always to accept God doing things His way, whether it is comfortable or not. He knows best. Submit to His ways; and, you will be equipped to be the living epistle that God has designed you to be.
