The Safe Deposit Box of Prayer

I Heard Dr. David Jeremiah give the illustration that prayer is like the key to a safe deposit box in a bank. It takes two keys to open the box. One key is held by the owner of the box and the other by the bank. The box can only be opened when the bank representative joins the owner of the box and they both turn the keys. Once both keys have been turned, the hidden treasures within the box are released to the owner of the second key.

Luke 11:9 (NKJV)

“So I say to you, ask, and it will be given to you; seek, and you will find; knock, and it will be opened to you.”

The treasure of your abundant life and God’s divine favor have already been provided for through the cross of Christ. At Calvary, Jesus turned the key to God’s treasure of provision, protection and intervention. It is now stored in heaven, just waiting to be released through the activation of your key, which is fervent, consistent prayer. I suggest that you make three things apparent as you pray. First, declare that God is your heavenly Father. Second, affirm that your desire is that His will be done. Finally, demonstrate through obedience that you will do your part to fulfill His will. Then, both keys will turn in agreement. You will gain the treasure of what is in the box, which can only be labeled “grace”

I’m Dr. Bob. Be sure that your heart has welcomed God to the throne of your life. Insist that His will is always going to be your desire and delight, regardless of what may be happening (whether good or not so good). Then, turn the key!
