I was recently thinking about the countless times God has moved into my plans, dreams and expectations. Without fail, He has responded to them by taking me to places in Him, and with Him, that far exceeded my expectations. It seems that, for the person who loves and serves God faithfully, the expectations he or she has will be small compared to the comprehensive enormity of God’s response. This makes me wonder what Abram’s expectations were when God called to him and told him to leave everything that was familiar and comfortable to go to a land God had waiting for him.
Genesis 12:1-3 (NKJV) says, “Now the LORD had said to Abram: “Get out of your country, From your family And from your father’s house, To a land that I will show you. {2} I will make you a great nation; I will bless you And make your name great; And you shall be a blessing. {3} I will bless those who bless you, And I will curse him who curses you; And in you all the families of the earth shall be blessed.””
Abram could not know what his obedience would bring. He certainly had had expectations, but how could they have even approached the enormous gift of the legacy God provided him? God has not changed. He still exceeds all that we hope for within our plans, dreams and expectations. All He asks is that we believe and obey. I’m Dr. Bob. How quick are you to obey, when you know God has told you to do something? Even when you obey, how confident are you that God will be with you and cause something good to come from your obedience?
