I had just returned home from a busy morning. As I thought about what I would do next, I heard the Holy Spirit say to my heart, “Take a break and catch up to yourself” I sat down for a few minutes and relaxed. So, here I was, sitting and enjoying a cup of hot chocolate. It was then that I realized the Holy Spirit was talking to me about more than my busy morning. Here is the point. We often go through the day, working through a busy agenda, while relying on our self and not God. In the process, we close our ears and hearts to the voice of the Holy Spirit. The Apostle Paul called this, “walking in the flesh.” Romans 8:5 (NKJV) says this: “For those who live according to the flesh set their minds on the things of the flesh, but those who live according to the Spirit, the things of the Spirit.”
Now, think about this. When we allow our lives to be ruled by busyness, it is almost as if we are in such a rush that our spirits cannot keep up with us. I believe the Holy Spirit telling me to slow down and let my spirit catch up to my flesh. Then I can listen, hearing spirit to Spirit, what He wants to say to me. I received this beautiful bit of correction. Today, I will try to spend my time walking with God, keeping my spirit, and thus, my thinking, in step with His guidance and protection. I’m Dr. Bob. What about you? Reflect on whether you been so busy that you have gotten ahead of your spirit and failed to hear God’s Spirit.
