I was recently talking with my friend, Bishop John Cummings, who is the Senior Pastor of Restoration Temple, in Brooklyn, New York City. We were discussing how much society has changed and how the Christian church has reflected these changes. We agreed that, far too often, change within the church means a loss of adherence by God’s people to the biblical absolutes God requires of us. The bishop and I also agreed that it has reached the point where there is a real crisis of commitment in many congregations. The church must renew a heartfelt emphasis on commitment to uncompromising righteousness. This will require training our people to live uncompromising biblically defined lives. 2 Timothy 3:16-17 (GWT) says, “Every Scripture passage is inspired by God. All of them are useful for teaching, pointing out errors, correcting people, and training them for a life that has God’s approval. {17} They equip God’s servants so that they are completely prepared to do good things.”
Only responsible, biblically sound church leadership will instill commitment in our people. Then they will begin to turn our society back to God. If you agree with this, please take time to check your personal commitment to God, and the principles He has given us in His Word. I’m Dr. Bob. How strongly are you committed to “a life that has God’s approval?” Is your commitment unshakeable? Does it need some strengthening? Take a few minutes and reflect on this.
