I was sitting in the home of Dr. Keith Pettus, who is the Senior Pastor of Truth Center Ministries in Long Island, NY. He had written in his ministry blog and showed it to me on his computer. Here is what he wrote. “Victim status is the modern promised land of absolution from responsibility.” When I read this, I suggested to Dr. Pettus that too many people and governments accept this as the norm for their thinking and subsequent behavior. He agreed.
Thousands of years ago, God spoke a promise of something different, concerning His people. Here is a part of what He spoke. It comes from Deuteronomy 28:13. The (NKJV) says, “And the LORD will make you the head and not the tail; you shall be above only, and not be beneath, if you heed the commandments of the LORD your God, which I command you today, and are careful to observe them.”
Now, let’s go back to what Dr. Pettus’ wrote. This time, let me paraphrase it with my own words, by saying, These days, we are told to believe that we are not responsible for our own lives, because we are victims of our circumstances. Unfortunately, this statement has become the center of our contemporary culture’s entitlement theology and sociology. It justifies blaming someone or something else for our refusal to fulfill our own responsibilities. In doing so, we take on a victim’s identity. This victim mentality leads to our expectation that others should take responsibility for our lives.
Only your freedom in Christ, with its ability to transform you into a winner, will enable you to live a productive, edifying life. Otherwise, you walk away from your potential and shut the door to your destiny. I’m Dr. Bob. Take responsibility for your life and future. Think of yourself as God thinks of you. You are a winner and champion for Jesus. Reflect on this.
