Pivot Points

We recently had some new doors installed in our home. As I watched the carpenter hang them, I thought about how securely he attached the doors to their wooden casings! I realized the doors could only open or close because the carpenter firmly secured the hinges to both the doors and the casings. This allowed the doors to stay upright and swing or pivot freely. As I looked at the hinges, I also thought of a switch in a railroad track. It too, moves or pivots. As it does, it determines the path the train will take. Proverbs 16:9 (NKJV) says, “A man’s heart plans his way, But the LORD directs his steps.” For a door to function properly, it must be attached by its hinges to something immovable. Otherwise, if the door starts to swing, it would fall. Like the door hinges or the railroad track switch, each of us will move through life without falling off track or being misdirected. As we remain securely attached to God, we can stay on track. When necessary, we can pivot or change directions, while still being secured to God. This allows us to function just as we were designed, while being assured that we are moving in the direction that God desires for us. My advice is to allow your belief in the greatest Carpenter who ever lived to secure you to God.
