Podcast: Temptation Defined – Temptation Denied
Recently, I was proof reading my new book, “Focusing in the Father – the Prayers of Jesus.” I came across the section on Matthew 6:13, in which Jesus teaches us to pray for deliverance from temptation. As I read, I thought of my definition of temptation, and so I felt led to share it with you. Here it is. “A temptation is an appeal to our carnal nature that presents us with a false promise. It does this for the purpose of denying what God has promised. At its deepest level, the target of the temptation is our faith in God. The purpose of the temptation is the destruction of our character and denial of our blessings.” When temptation comes your way, remember that God always provides a way for you to escape it.
1 Corinthians 10:13 (NKJV) says, “No temptation has overtaken you except such as is common to man; but God is faithful, who will not allow you to be tempted beyond what you are able, but with the temptation will also make the way of escape, that you may be able to bear it.”
When temptation tries to lie to you, keep your heart pure by looking to the promises of God. He makes a way for you to resist every temptation. Your resistance will enable you to escape your test. It will lead you past your test all the way to your testimony… that God is faithful. I’m Dr. Bob. James 1:12 (NLT) says, “God blesses the people who patiently endure testing. Afterward they will receive the crown of life that God has promised to those who love him.” Reflect on the personal value of this truth… for you!
