My wife, Nancy and I were taking communion in church recently when the little cup of juice, representing the blood of Jesus, spilled on her clothes. She immediately said to me, “That will be a permanent stain. It cannot be removed.” Then she said, “Thank God that the stain of sin is not like the juice on my clothes. It does not have to be permanent.” 1 John 1:8-9 (NKJV) says, “If we confess our sins, He is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.” Let these two verses sink into your heart. They say that we all are imperfect and we all sin. Then they bring us the awesome assurance that when we have given our lives to Christ, and we confess our sins to God, we no longer have to live with the stain of sin’s condemnation. Forgiveness by God leaves no room for condemnation, shame or guilt to continue to thrive in us. We are free of them because what was not removable suddenly vanishes. This is because God moves into our lives and removes it forever. The lesson is simple. Confess your sin, repent and move ahead. Then, do not look back. God will have removed the stain of sin and you will be clean as the driven snow.
