Cassava in the Pot

I would like to tell you about one of my favorite foods. I first came to know it while I was pastoring in the Fiji Islands. I am talking about an ugly, dirty root that lives in the ground. It is called cassava. You may know it as yucca. The amazing thing about cassava is that when it is cleaned up and properly prepared, it becomes a wonderful, useful, nourishing and blessing. It transforms from being hard and seemingly useless to a tender, tasty and terrific treat. Its transformation is all about the processes it goes through. In the heat of the pot, it is born again into quite the opposite of what it was. The Apostle Peter wrote, in 1 Peter 1:6-7 (NKJV), “In this you greatly rejoice, though now for a little while, if need be, you have been grieved by various trials, {7} that the genuineness of your faith, being much more precious than gold that perishes, though it is tested by fire, may be found to praise, honor, and glory at the revelation of Jesus Christ.”

Today could be your day to demonstrate that you have been transformed into someone who is a blessing and who God can use to  nourish those in the world around you by your presence and your speech. Then, they will know that they have tasted of the goodness of God in you. I’m Dr. Bob. You can listen to additional Mentoring Minutes at
