Mentoring Ministry

Providing biblical teaching resources for the next generation.

More of Who? Less of Who?

I’m Dr. Bob and for just a Mentoring Minute, I would like to ask you whether your attitudes are defined by what I call “more of me, and less of God.” In other words, are you someone who consistently and habitually relies more on the inherent weaknesses of your own instincts, or are you someone whose habit is to rely on the strength God give? If you study the biblical account of Jacob, you will find he changed from being a self-reliant deceiver to a man who depended on God. 2 Corinthians 12:9 (NKJV)says, “And He said to me, “My grace is sufficient for you, for My strength is made perfect in weakness.” Therefore most gladly I will rather boast in my infirmities, that the power of Christ may rest upon me.” It took the threat of his brother Esau, coming with four hundred men, for Jacob finally to realize his need to rely completely on God. Jacob made the choice to change his thinking to, “Less of me and more of God.” This made him eligible for God to change his name from “deceiver” to “Israel.” The rest is history. Today could be a game-changer in the history of your name. Today could be a name-changer. What will they call you? The story of your life will clearly depend on whose strength it is that you choose to trust. You can listen to additional Mentoring Minutes at
