I’m Dr. Bob and for just a Mentoring Minute, I want to share with you some extremely useful insight into the greatest demonstration of love you can find. If you will embrace this truth, it will set you free from the inevitable tensions your every-day relationships may bring. We all live with the assault of these tensions. Without the ability to rise above them, we are easy targets for the consequences they hold. 1 John 5:3 (NKJV) says, “For this is the love of God, that we keep His commandments. And His commandments are not burdensome.” Two things clearly stand out from this verse. First, if you are to demonstrate God’s love for the world to see, you must become a living demonstration of His commandments. Second, as you exercise a heart to please God, you will find that being a living demonstration of His love is not burdensome. Here is what I recommend. Make a decision to structure every aspect of your life around a personal commitment to God’s kind of love. Let it define your life. Let it be reflected in your living – that is, your words and your actions. Then, watch what happens. I promise you this. If you try it, you will like it… and so will everyone else. I’m Dr. Bob. There is one more thing to share with you. Add verses four and five to 1 John 1:3. They say, “And these things we write to you that your joy may be full. {5} This is the message which we have heard from Him and declare to you, that God is light and in Him is no darkness at all.” Now you have the complete picture.
